Forecasting a Storm
The dramatic clouds above and in reflections on the calm surface of the Stellako River forecast a brewing storm. The photograph was taken alongside Yellowhead Highway #16 a short distance west of Fort Fraser. Although it cannot be seen in this photograph, Fraser Lake lies a very short distance ahead and drains through the Nautley River (at less than one kilometre in length being one of the shortest rivers in the world) into the Nechako River, a tributary of the Fraser, BC's largest river.  Besides being rich in historical respects (with history dating back to Simon Fraser establishing a fur-trading post near Fort Fraser in 1806) the area has much to offer tourists and anyone involved in outdoor activities. These could include viewing lava beds, numerous species of migrating birds (including Trumpeter Swans) and Native pictographs, or participating in water sports, some of Canada's best sports fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing, to name a few.
