about the images

The images on my website are a mix of film and digital.  Details are as follow:

Film

All film-based images were captured with 35mm equipment and superior quality professional slide films, in most cases Fuji Velvia because of its brilliant colour, optimum sharpness, and wonderful reproduction capabilities.  Other excellent professional films I use for certain applications including wildlife include Fuji Provia and Astia, and some of the older images were captured on Kodachrome 25 film.

The fine grain characteristics of the above films produce very large files when scanned, enabling me to obtain exquisite large-sized custom prints from the slides.

Digital

The digital images were captured by my Sony DSLR bodies with Minolta, Tamron or Sigma lenses.  I was a long-time film camera user and it took some time and much urging by photographer friends to convince me that digital has improved vastly.  After finally giving it a try I must say that I am impressed with the results, and my clients who have bought images obviously agree.  To see more information on my equipment I use to capture my images simply visit the "Tools of the Trade" page.

Please bear in mind that with the technological  limitations of computer screens and the online resolution of the images (reduced from a file size of approximately 50-80MB to a scant 65-80KB for easy and convenient viewing on your computer), they simply do not show all the brilliance and detail seen in my custom enlarged framed images on display throughout the Northwest.  You can rest assured, however, that enlarged prints of any of the images viewed on the website will be of the same superior quality as the framed photographs.
